Book Review: Dragonbreath

Image
Dragonbreath is a book in a series by Ursula Vernon. I know the author after reading and being fascinated by her book Castle Hangnail . Seriously. Castle Hangnail is awesome. All kids should read this :D I found out about Dragonbreath because when I was a teacher buying collections of books, I realized that these books were by the Castle Hangnail  author. And, since she was amazing, I gave them a try. Don't get me wrong. This are really good books for kids, but the target audience is for younger kids than the one for Castle Hangnail. I would say kids in second grade through fourth grade would really enjoy Dragonbreath , while Castle Hangnail , is more for teenagers and up. Or, like me, adults.  I would definitely recommend Dragonbreath  for elementary school aged children. It's fun and  instructional. The main character is a dragon who only breathes fire in dire circumstances, which is a little frowned upon by his parents. Also, dragons are myth ...

Book Review: Hilo

Image
If you haven't picked up this graphic novel for your kids, you should!  We first found Hilo  when number one came out. My husband went on a trip and he usually brings each kid a book back as a souvenir. That's how we got the first volume of this amazing book! Hilo is... well, I can't tell you anything about him. You'd have to read it for yourself. This is a story filled with action and awesome dialogue. You love the ever smiling Hilo with all of the discoveries that come with him.  On book two (we checked this one out of the library, we don't own him), Hilo's team grows. And then on part three (another gift from a trip!) we see even more of his adventures! Just look at the covers, don't you think your kids will love it! I know mine do, they read it over and over and over. cheers!

Book Review: In a Dark Dark Wood

My husband picked this book for me one day we visited Barnes and Noble and I was looking for a good mystery book. I read Gone Girl and LOVED IT and then I read Girl on the Train and liked it, too. He told me the book was advertised as being in the same league as the two other books, so I gave it a try. I must confess I do not think it's in the same league as Gone Girl or Girl on the Train. At least, that's my opinion. The book is well written. It's very friendly and it flows. Unfortunately, nothing really  interesting  happens for most of the book. Since the beginning the author (Ruth Ware) lets you know that there is something  definitely  going to happen at some point in the story, but since  nothing  really important happens while this even will happen, it's strange how you are interested and at the same time... well, not. At the end, once the reveal comes (which I did predict it fairly early in the book, especially because things begin to h...

Video Game Review: Things to Do in Zelda Breath of the Wild

Image
I love Zelda. I not only like playing, but I also love writing and talking about Zelda. Right now, I'm all about Breath of the Wild. Almost 100 hours of gameplay so far. Three Divine Beasts. Twenty Hearts. Two Stamina Wheels. I think I rock. Ha! Today I am going to list things that you need to collect in Breath of the Wild. Shrines. Possibly the most important for me. Find Shrines and you will, a) get more hearts or stamina, b) get teleporting points, c) get weapons/rupees/armor/gems. There are 120 of these in the game. Food. What you eat gives you not only heart, but also heat or cold resistance, lightning resistance, more stamina, more defense, more attack, extra hearts. Find all the food you can. Gems. These are good for rupees or special armor. You can sell them for rupees and get stuff you need for sale or you can restore the jewelry shop and buy special jewelry that protects you from most things. Smash or blow up black rocks to get gems, it's a good thing...

Book Review: Red Queen

I have been seeing this book around a lot... or, more than others, at least. I couldn't resist the temptation when I learned it was about people with superpowers (because I love people with superpowers). I took it off the shelf from the Barnes and Noble and bought it with a gift card I had. I have heard different reviews about this book. Some great. Some horrible. I have to admit I am definitely on the  great  side of the spectrum. I just  loved  this book. I confess that the premise was interesting to me. It was a little like imagining a world where the X-Men are royalty and the homo-sapiens are the slaves. Something like a  what if...  It was pretty amazing. This is only the first part in what I thought was going to be a trilogy, although as I look on the web there is a possible fourth book (still untitled) there somewhere. I only hope the following books are as good as the first. I will keep my fingers crossed. cheers!
