Book Review - Newsletter Ninja

Image
I first heard about this book and author Tammi Labrecque in The Creative Penn podcast. Tammi, a very down-to-earth lady, spoke in detail about mailing lists and how important they were. But, most importantly, she spoke about how EVERYBODY is afraid of them and how once we get over that fear, everything would be ok. I bought the book because I wanted to learn more about newsletters and because I liked how Tammi Labrecque talked about our real-life fears and how we can do it if we have the right mindset. In her book, she talks a lot about why you should have a newsletter and how you shouldn't stress out about it. She tells you how to set it up in terms of content, not technicalities. It was just what I needed to hear. With her help, while reading her book, I opened a MailChimp account, created a landing page and the first welcoming emails for the mailing list subscribers I will one day have. Granted, I still don't have any fans , but I want to be positive that once my bo...

Book Review: Children of Blood and Bone

It took me a while to finish this book, to tell the truth. It has a great premise and it's well written, but after the setup, everything slows down and whatever happens is, in my opinion, too much. Unfortunately, it got to a point where I wasn't interested anymore. I understand there has to be character development, but the way it was done was slow and not very interesting to me. There were also some predictable parts - or some characters who had predictable futures. By the end of it, everything suddenly picks up and you are left in a TOTAL cliffhanger. I can imagine that, after the second book comes out, a little bit will be resolved from the cliffhanger and it will go into the slow middle again for 400 pages before starting up again just in time for another cliffhanger. I haven't decided if I want to read the book. I feel a little betrayed, to tell the truth. Too bad, I had such great expectations. I still give it 4 stars (or 3.5 if Goodreads let me). cheer...

Book Review: A Darker Shade of Magic

What an amazing book! I'd heard so much about this book I took it from the shelve immediately when I saw it at Barnes and Noble. I was not disappointed. It was much more than I expected. The worlds were new and imaginative and the rules were just enough to make magic useful if you knew how to use it. The prose was smooth and it flowed as I read and the dialogue between the characters was funny and witty. V.E. Schwab made you LIKE her characters. You wanted them to keep talking to each other and exchanging ideas just to see what they would do or say. The story was fast-paced and filled with adventure. I will definitely be reading more of her books. What a great discovery! A definite five stars. cheers! Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate this post earns from qualifying purchases.
