Book Review: Finale (Caraval #3)

Image
My 13 year-old daughter introduced me to Caraval . Finale  is Stephanie Garber's ending to her trilogy. These are fantasy books based on a world that doesn't exist, where magic is wielded only by a few with not a lot of explanation. The first book introduces Caraval , which is a game that happens every once in a while created by a man who is immortal and magical called Legend. The story revolves around two sisters, Donatella (Tella) and Scarlet. Caraval  is told from Scarlet's point of view and it's about how she goes through the game of Caraval.  The second book, Legendary , is told from Tella's point of view. In this book, it's Tella's turn to go through the game, except we are also introduced to the Fates, who are supposed to be magical beings created by the ultimate Fate. Supposedly, these Fates were once human and their magic was dangerous and they were trapped.  Sometimes I wonder if the Fates were part of this universe all along or if the author creat...

Audiobook Review: How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps

We had so much fun with this audiobook! I subscribe to audible and this book, How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps,  was one of the choices I got for the two free originals I can get each month. I honestly don't remember for which month now. I listened to this story with my 11 and 13 year-old and they loved it. They have both played Breath of the Wild and Link's Awakening on the Switch and they have also read the Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past's graphic novels that my brother gifted me for one of my birthdays a while ago. This book bases a lot of its plot on this video game. It also uses a bit of Final Fantasy type games for somethings, like which class the characters are, how much experience they gain from killing monsters and the grinding to level up. The story, pretty much like in a Zelda game, follows a hero who needs to go stop a demon king. A LOT of things happen similar to the video games. The hero need to level up and go through dungeons where, yes, sh...

Videogame Review: Xenoblade Chronicles

Image
Xenoblade Chronicles 2  was the first game I played on the Switch after Breath of the Wild. I had played Breath of the Wild  twice and wanted something else to play. I had played most Zelda titles 2 o 3 times, and I was ready for something different on the Switch—since I bought the console to play the new Zelda game. I was not disappointed. It took a bit to get used to the gameplay. It also took a bit to understand how to complete the side quests and how to improve your characters, but eventually I got the hang of it. In this game, you are two characters at the same time. The Xenoblades are characters, too, but they can only work paired with your character (if that makes any sense). So you are basically both characters at the same time and each pair can create a special attack together. As you progress in the game, you are able to create more blades. If you're lucky, you get a special Xenoblade with a name and special abilities. If not, you'll get one generic blade you ...
