Book Review: Ready Player Two

Image
I had to read the sequel to the wonderful Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline. I enjoyed that first book so much. I grew up in the eighties and played the videogames, watched the movies and anime shows that are mentioned in the book. Not only that, the story was amazing. Just the description of that virtual world was a pleasure to read. The plot was ingenious and the twists well thought out. I really enjoyed that one. The second book... not so much, unfortunately. It wasn't as dynamic as the first one. First of all, the beginning of the story is depressing. The main character is not very likable at all (too bad because I loved him in the first book). Then the quest begins. Perhaps because the author wanted to simulate the first book and its success? I'm not sure. But instead of adding these bits and pieces of geekiness like he did in the first one, he forced  the "trivia" on us at length. I confess I skipped a few parts. The book is about finding some crystals (basically...

Book Review: Binti

Image
I have to say I was really impressed with the first chapter of this book.  Something to learn from. The first book was pretty great. It was short, but great. We are introduced to Binti and Star Trek type world where space travel is possible and human beings are not the only intelligent species in the universe. The second book was a bit slow, and the third basically finishes up what book 1 started. The fate of Binti is decided.  I really enjoyed the language in this book. I also enjoyed how the author talked about ideas through science and mathematics. It was a fresh and new way of looking at things that I thought were fantastic. A lot of sci-fi themes were touched upon (apart from space and aliens). The story moves through telepathic communication, technological advances, mutation, culture and religion, and much much more. I think that, at the end of this series, this was what I enjoyed the most. The talk about these different topics within the story. Cheers! As an...

Video Game Review: Final Fantasy VII (Remastered)

Image
I played the original Final Fantasy VII when it came out back in 1997. I was twenty-one years old at the time. In full disclosure I confess this wasn't my favorite Final Fantasy game. That one has to be Final Fantasy IV to me. No other game can beat that story, in my opinion. But I thoroughly enjoyed playing Final Fantasy VII and I remember every single minute of beating it. I had Tifa and Cloud and Cid with me and Cid just nailed it. If not for him, Sephiroth would have defeated me.  It was a tough game! And it was long and complicated back then, at least for me. Now, I've been waiting for the Final Fantasy VII remake for a long time and when it finally came I downloaded it the night before to be ready. And I began to play. It is amazing! I can't decide which one I like better. The animation and the story is much improved and it is a pleasure watching. The combat system is changed a bit, but I think I enjoy being able to smash with my sword more than just choosing fight  f...
