Book Review: Project Hail Mary
This one is, hands down, the best book I've read all year. I've heard about it—and I had already read The Martian a few years back—but I had no idea how good it was going to be.
I got it for my birthday and couldn't wait to start it . . . and then I couldn't stop.
I don't want to give too much away because part of my enjoyment was the discovery journey. The story is told in a mix of present events and back-flashes, which come slowly (and there's a reason for that). But let's just say that our main character is in space and there's a reason he's there and there's a good reason why he doesn't remember.
There is a big problem to solve, and as the book blurb says, our main character will meet a most unlikely ally.
This ally is nothing like I could have imagined, and I confessed I spent many a sleepless night trying to figure out how in the world they were going to work together.
But there is lots of science when coming up with solutions to all the problems they will encounter. As a "scientist" myself (I'm a chemical engineer), I thoroughly enjoyed all of that.
If there's a book you'll read this year, I recommend this one. It's excellent, fast-paced, interesting, and with a great plot.
Highly recommend.
Cheers!
