Video Game Review: Assassin's Creed Odyssey
After playing Assassin's Creed Origins, I dove straight into Odyssey. I was not disappointed.
The game is much longer than Origins, but the game play is very similar to its predecesor, which made me happy. One of the things I disliked about Origins were the ships. I really couldn't control them all that well and I ended up dying so many times. Well, Odyssey is basically a lot of islands, and you get there by ship (one that you gain control of early in the game), and you do need to battle in the water a bit. I'm just not a fan of the ship part.
I admit the ship has certain uses. It has a chest to keep part of your loot if you want, and it serves as a teleporting point. You can also call the ship from the ports around the world. Once you visit all the islands, then you don't really need the ship for much—except for completing a few quests on water.
The islands are like small worlds in themselves. It took me quite a while to complete most of the islands. Then there's the big plot of land, which also has a bunch of things to do.
There are more choices to make in this game, too. While Origins is very straight forward, you do get different endings in Odyssey depending on what you choose to do. I think I got the good ending. Yay me!
Although I didn't really finish the game, I finished the main quests. Part of the game is to bring down a Cult. Well, these Cult members are hiding in the world. You get clues to their identities in different ways. Some are in ships (I only got one of those), and one has to be found in battle. Well, I battled for the right team to meet this Cult member twice, but he never showed. So much for that...
So, even thought I finished the game, I didn't bring down the Cult. Oh, well.
Overall, the game was very enjoyable. The side quests a bit repetitive at times, making you go from one point of the map or the other to kill some thieves, deliver something, or murder politicians and mercenaries (I think the mercenaries are infinite).
I was glad to have finished it. It was too long, even for me, but it brought me many, many hours of entertainment. For that, I am grateful.
Cheers!
