Video Game Review: Super Mario Odyssey
I had heard much about Mario Odyssey, so when I finished Final Fantasy VII: Remake I gave it a go. My son had gotten it for Christmas or his birthday or something a while back and he let it to me. He was very excited that I would play it. My son is 10.
Well, I confess I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The world was neat and the story okay, but it felt very much like a regular Mario 3D game instead of an RPG.
Like Mario games, lately, this one has you collect stars. There are HUNDREDS of them and they are all hidden in the different levels. You don't need to find all of them, but you need a minimum to continue playing. I have no idea where most of the stars are. I thought I was very thorough when going through the levels but it turned out I only found like a fourth of the total number of stars. I didn't even get to the 200 you need to open the special level at the end. But honestly, I was just tired of the game by the time I finished it and I couldn't care less.
This is one of those games where you need to jump the right way at the right time and pray your controller does absolutely what you want it to do. This doesn't always happen for me, so I ended up frustrated several times because I would move my finger a tenth of an inch more and I would die, die, die.
Definitely not my favorite. If only the game had Mario gain levels with experience, but that didn't happen either. You have 3 hearts (sometimes you can buy 3 extra) and THAT.IS.IT.
I recommend it only if you are happy playing the latest Mario games, but if you're more like me (who enjoys Zelda, Witcher, Skyrim, Assassins Creed or Lara Croft) I suggest you stay away from it.
Cheers!
