Videogame Review: Horizon Forbidden West

Guys, I finished this game in about a month! A new record time and after playing 105 hours total.

I completed most of the side quests and had a lot of fun.

Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, which I loved because of the gameplay and story. I had to play the sequel as soon as I could. After I finished Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I bought it and downloaded it.

Before I talk a bit more about the game (likes and dislikes), I have to say it was a bit buggy. Sometimes the characters (NPCs) wouldn't show on the screen! So I would need to reset the game. At some point, I got stuck in some weird place (and I had to reset the game), and one of the side quests was just... not there.

I mean, I get it. The game was pretty new and the bugs still hadn't all been fixed. It's annoying, but all right.

What was really annoying was the playing difficulty. The same happened to me with Horizon Zero Dawn. I like playing on the normal difficulty, and I started on normal, on HFW as I did on HZD. Everything was fine until I got to this certain side quest where I needed to kill a bear. Well, I don't remember exactly now, but my level was like 22 or 24 and the quest was 18 or something and the bear killed me with two strikes while my arrow took off 1% of it's life bar. COME ON!

At this point, I decided to go down to easy. The game played well like that—and it was still challenging, believe me. I don't know why developers do this, when you can't even play on normal anymore. Or maybe it's just me, a middle-aged mother of three who doesn't know better.

The game had the same mechanics as the first one. On this one I could also glide and ride a mechanic pterodactyl machine. That was cool. Finding orbs, and recordings, and going after rebel camps, but I wasn't too keep of the arena, and other training grounds. It just wasn't my thing.

I took all of the side quests I could, but I did not travel to all of the camps to find people with "rumors" to turn into side quests, so I may have missed a bit.

The Tallnecks, the Cualdrons, vista points, and survey drones was all great, as well as opening the flowers and firegleams was fun.

I loved how the side characters were introduced and they continued to be developed during the story and the twist... WOW! I was definitely surprised.

The game was beautiful, and challenging, and using both my weapon and arrows were great for battle. I love when games do stealth, and Horizon Forbidden West is great at it (although I did miss the whistling from the AC series).

I was a disappointed with the open-ended end of the game, but glad that I may be able to continue to enjoy this franchise. Long live Aloy!

Cheers!
