Videogame Review: Starfield

This is definitely not like Skyrim.

I haven't played many Bethesda games, but I can tell you that I loved playing Skyrim. I played it until there was absolutely nothing else I could do. This was hundreds of hours. And then, instead of getting the next Elder Scrolls game we got: Starfield.

My husband was so psyched. So much that he got me a new console and the game so that I could play it at the same time he was playing it.

The game is not that bad, but there are a lot of things that I don't enjoy.

1) The doors. They take so long to open and close

2) The random visiting of NPC to deliver messages or things that makes me run like a crazy person through galaxies. Can't they just send a message? Or a text? Or an email? *sigh*

3) The unlimited items that I can collect that I never use or don't want to use. I don't even know what I should be looking for half the time, and if I'm building something that requires "x" item, do I have time to go looking for it? No. I rather not build anything unless I already randomly collected the thing... but my inventory gets full and I can't walk without being penalized for it if I just randomly collect stuff. *sigh*

4) The spaceship battles. I just can't even. I upgraded my shield as fast as I could, and the weapons, and they still kill me. So I lower the difficulty every time I have a space battle. *sigh*

5) All NPCs don't look real

6) All NPCs are too goody goody. And I don't feel like "hooking-up" with any of them.

7) It's a shooter. I can't move the gun just a bit to hit the target. The aim just moves around everywhere. I probably hit someone every 20 bullets while I try to aim the thing.

8) No maps. If I want to find something (like my house) how am I supposed to find it again?

9) This isn't all. As I was doing a side quest, there was an unexplained attack on my ship. No reason that I could think. Lots of people on Reddit say it's a bug. The only way around it is to attack. Just one shot. At that point, the side quest advances, and I run away only to get to a place where, just being in space, kills my spaceship in five seconds. That's it. Disappointed, I go to New Atlantis, except that now, no matter where I go, everyone attacks me. So annoying. The only solution I could find was to go back as far as three hours prior, which means losing 3 hours of gameplay.

10) To advance in the main quest, you must upgrade your piloting skills. No one tells you this, but at that time, you must find side quests or something to do to gain experience to get a skill point to start your piloting skills on the skills tree if you haven't to move forward.

*sigh*

Not all is bad, but the game turned out to be annoying and a contender to abandon the game.

There are a few good things and I feel that I should mention them:

1) It's entertaining to play most of the time.

2) There are a lot of things to find, but most you shouldn't care to take.

3) Lots of decisions to make that aren't easy to make.

4) The combat isn't that bad. I can finish the missions, after all. But I struggle to aim correctly with the controller.

5) The lock picking puzzle is cool.

6) The skill tree has a lot of choices, which are too many, in my opinion, but that's ok.

7) Visually, it's great. I do feel like I'm in space sometimes traveling from planet to planet. That's cool.

8) The story is ok, but not great. Interesting concept. The Dragonborn idea was way better.

Overall, I think I'd give it 6/10. Hopefully, they will continue making Elder Scrolls VI. I would rather be playing that one.

Cheers!
