Book Review: Quiet

Image
I have so much to say about this book. My editor recommended it when I was trying to explain why I could never be successful in society. Including selling my books, interacting in social media, and in the real world. I'm just too different. And so, she recommended this book. I loved it! There are so many ideas I learned about in this book that help explain my relationship with the rest of the world. That is not to say that I don't need to change. On the contrary, I think that, if I choose to play the game of life successfully, then I need to think about how I can be a better introvert by pretending to be an extrovert. Will I lose my identity when I do? Possibly. Or at least part of the time. Should I do it? I'm not sure yet. that will require a much detailed introspection. One I may never share here. But alas! Here are my main take-aways from this book: Let's start by saying that Extrovert or Introvert. Shy or Confident. They are not the same things! Dale Carnegie. I...

Book Review: Later

My husband can't read paperbacks anymore because of the letter size, so all Stephen King books we have on the Kindle. I had two Stephen King books on my TBR pile for this year and Later was one of them. I didn't really know what it was about, and I dug in hoping to be surprised. I really enjoyed the book. Stephen King truly is the master. His style of writing is wonderful and unique. This story was told in first person, as the main character tells about what happened throughout his life. The story is about a boy who can see dead people, but don't think it's anything like The Sixth Sense . The story was great, overall, and I could tell it was well planned, but as recent Stephen King novels, the ending wasn't what it could have been. I have to admit the ending wasn't bad, and although it was a bit open-ended, it kinda makes sense in a way, because usually he makes up the most unbelievable endings (or he has been lately, at least), and although not everything was ...

Book Review: The Remains of the Day

I heard an interview with the author on NPR, learning he just released a book and that he had once won the Nobel prize for literature. I remembered watching the movie with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson ages ago. I remember it was slow, but that I hadn’t been able to stop watching. I, of course, saw the actors as I read the novel. It was a different way of writing, but I still enjoyed it, especially every single piece of dialogue between the two main characters. Now I want to watch the movie again. Overall, a good, enjoyable book. Cheers! As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Video Game Review: Assassin's Creed Vallhalla

146.5 hours of game play, peeps. That's a lot of time. Less than the number of hours I spent on Skyrim, but close to how many I played Witcher 3. I have a lot of feelings about Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but I have to say that, although parts of it are redundant, this type of game play is my favorite, so I did enjoy most of the game in general.  Let me split this up in sections: Story : The story was a little depressing, to tell the truth. It felt like I wanted to do the right thing, but somehow, something bad happened anyway and people blamed my character. At some point I thought the story would end where I was banished or killed by a mob or something. On the other hand, some where difficult decisions to make, and although I don't like stressing out about those choices, I liked that not everything was black and white. The story also had a few supernatural elements. Although some were because of the animus or because of mushrooms (the character got "high" on them...
