Thoughts: The New Year is Here

Image
My blog has gone through a big update. One of my new year's resolutions is to separate my author life, from my teacherpreneur life, and my personal life. My goal is to NOT promote my books or teacher store in this blog anymore. I AM going to be writing about my life, and since being an independent author and teacherpreneur are a part of my life, I will mention them. But you will not see names of books or resources. There will not be a link taking you to them. What there will be plenty will be reviews of books I read and video games I play. Mostly this blog will be about that. 😏 Now, the first thing I did (between yesterday and this morning), was to delete anything that had to do with my books and my teacher store. Bam! Gone! The next thing I did, which took about an hour, was update the labels and the look of my blog. I want it to be relaxed and easy to read. If I am not succeeding, please let me know. Finally, I updated the title of my blog. It is now An Overwhelmed Creative , ...

Book Review: The Sunlit Man

Image
The Sunlit Man is the fourth and final novel from the Brandon Sanderson's Kickstarter. I accidentally skipped Yumi and the Nightmare Painter when I went on a trip and needed to take a book on my Kindle.  The Sunlit Man started a bit odd. With a character who doesn't know where he is or what is happening around him. All we knew was that he was running from something. The events began to unfold, but I confess it was hard for me to follow or connect to the story for a while because I felt lost and didn't know what in the world was happening or why. But then the author began to tell me about the world, and that piqued my interest. It was a small world that had a very hot and short day, so the citizens of the planet needed to be constantly moving with the night to not get incinerated.  The race of people who lived in the planet also had energy transferring abilities, which helped move the plot. The villain, a tyrant who has a lot of energy at his disposal, was cruel, unli...

Video Game Review: It Takes Two

Image
I sometimes play video games with my brother on line (since we live many miles apart). We started not too long ago (we've been doing it for about a year now), and we started with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game we used to play in an arcade growing up (we are in our late forties now). We only played this for about two days and needed a change. Then we tried a few others (including the Aliens one before they took it off GamePass.  Finally, he suggested It Takes Two. Now, this was a really fun game. The story and characters weren't all that great, but the gameplay was really interesting because it kept changing. The game is about two parents who basically hate each other and want to divorce, and their daughter thinks its her fault. So one day, they turn into two of her toys and they try to become human again. During their journey, the "Book of Love" (yes, you read that right) tried to show them how to find love again (or at least how to cooperate). The two charac...

Book Review: Stars and Smoke

Image
Stars and Smoke is a book by the author of a series of books I love called Legend . Before I read this stand-alone book, I read the Warcross duology by Marie Lu and I wasn't disappointed. Perhaps it wasn't as wonderful as the Legend Trilogy was, but it met my expectations. Unfortunately, Stars and Smoke wasn't even close to either others other books. Honestly, I don't know what happened. The story was very slow and nothing ever really happened. I mean, it did, but it was like an afterthought, and even when the book was over 300 pages, the two main characters that are supposed to be in love never showed any real chemistry or a sign to convince me that they were in love, at least. Everything felt a bit forced. The story still had a point, which came very late in th ebook, with a very abrupt ending. Just like that. I recommend the Legend Series or even the Warcross books over this title. Perhaps her next book will be amazing. I surely hope so. Cheers!

Videogame Review: Starfield

Image
This is definitely not like Skyrim. I haven't played many Bethesda games, but I can tell you that I loved playing Skyrim. I played it until there was absolutely nothing else I could do. This was hundreds of hours. And then, instead of getting the next Elder Scrolls game we got: Starfield. My husband was so psyched. So much that he got me a new console and the game so that I could play it at the same time he was playing it. The game is not that  bad, but there are a lot of things that I don't enjoy. 1) The doors. They take so long to open and close 2) The random visiting of NPC to deliver messages or things that makes me run like a crazy person through galaxies. Can't they just send a message? Or a text? Or an email? *sigh* 3) The unlimited items that I can collect that I never use or don't want to use. I don't even know what I should be looking for half the time, and if I'm building something that requires "x" item, do I have time to go looking for it?...

Book Review: Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman

Image
I was truly curious to read this book. I always enjoyed watching Alan Rickman in his movies even before he became professor Snape. And then he passed away and they published his diaries. I must confess I mostly did not enjoy reading them. I feel like I got a better idea of how Alan Rickman was like when he was alive. He was a normal human being with things he enjoyed, and things he disliked. In his short diaries he mostly talks about people he frequented, his movies and his relationships with his wife.  I got the feeling he was a bit disappointed in life most of the time. But this was his diary. The entries were short. And when I write in a diary it's usually to get something out that I don't want to bother other people to know. This may have been the case with this diary transcript. It was interesting, but a bit boring at times. It took me so long to finish. RIP Alan Rickman. Cheers!

Video Game Review: Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Image
I finished this game a few months ago but I hadn't written about my experience.  The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the Breath of the Wild game. The game uses the same folklore and a very similar map to the one in the first installment, but this time, there is a world in the clouds and another underground, which makes for three maps. The gameplay is similar, too (and I just love playing link with his swords and bow/arrows) but the tools he uses are different. Gone are the unlimited bombs that I so loved, and the other three abilities (magnesis, cryonis and stasis). Instead, you get the ability to build, the ability to phase upwards, the ability to fuse things to your weapons, and the ability to turn back time instead of stopping it. I honestly enjoyed the bombs and magnesis much more. The build ability in Tears of the Kingdom could get a little annoying. I found that it took me so long to build things the right way and then whatever I build wasn't ...
