Book Review: In Five Years

Image
Honestly, I saw this was a book a friend of mine read in a book club and I became interested. I read the Amazon description and it was so endearing. A woman who is in a relationship sees a glimpse of her life five years later and her husband isn't her current boyfriend. Uh! It got me. I wanted to read it! My friend was kind enough to loan me her copy the week before I went to the beach and it felt like the right kind of book for the occasion. BOY WAS I WRONG! It was so horribly depressing! I couldn't see how things could work out nor how that glimpse of the future happened. And when it DID happen, it didn't even make sense. It was horrible! I am so sorry to say I do not recommend this book. At least, it isn't my kind of book. I was torn between continuing in hopes it got better (it didn't) or just abandoning the book. Really, this is some misleading marketing. After I finished the book and told my friend what I thought about it, she said her daughter had warned her...

Videogame Review: Horizon Forbidden West

Image
Guys, I finished this game in about a month! A new record time and after playing 105 hours total. I completed most of the side quests and had a lot of fun. Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn , which I loved because of the gameplay and story. I had to play the sequel as soon as I could. After I finished Assassin's Creed Valhalla , I bought it and downloaded it. Before I talk a bit more about the game (likes and dislikes), I have to say it was a bit buggy. Sometimes the characters (NPCs) wouldn't show on the screen! So I would need to reset the game. At some point, I got stuck in some weird place (and I had to reset the game), and one of the side quests was just... not there. I mean, I get it. The game was pretty new and the bugs still hadn't all been fixed. It's annoying, but all right. What was really annoying was the playing difficulty. The same happened to me with Horizon Zero Dawn . I like playing on the normal difficulty, and I started on n...

Book Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Image
Well, I confess I read this book because it came up as banned  on several lists, and I was curious. I knew there was a movie of it staring Emma Watson and the guy from the Percy Jackson movies (who I am partial to), and didn't seem like a movie I wanted to see. But I became curious about the book and so, I gave it a go. I actually loved the story, and it was very easy for me to identify with the main character.  But I can see why it's banned. It talks about a LOT of sensitive topics, and although I think (and this is MY opinion) a sixteen year old will understand the message in this book, I don't know if some fourteen year olds that attend high school will take what this book really has to teach. Also in my opinion, some situations in the book are a little unrealistic, but again, if you think about what it's really trying to say, you should be fine. I also still think that banning it just draws more attention to the book. They should have just leave it be. Decisions b...

Book Review: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Image
A dear friend recommended this book, so I had to read it. I wasn't sure what it was about, except that it was the life of an actress and that it had LGBTQ themes. The book was fantastic. The author knew what she was doing. Her writing was superb and the hook was perfect. I have a lot to learn from the author, I can tell you. The story is a mix between present time and the memories of Evelyn Hugo, an actress that had seven husbands. I don't want to spoil the book, but I can tell you I could not put it down, and although I tried to guess at the small mystery  that wasn't revealed until the end, I was not disappointed.  The story spans many decades and the way that Evelyn Hugo moves through the world of Hollywood and fame is represented through her marriages to seven men, all very different and all chosen for pre-meditated reasons. That made for a very interesting character. I really enjoyed this book, and I think it's tied right now with Circe  for the best book I re...
